I bought this book so that I could learn the songs and sing them at various moments in the day. Upon hearing it, I thought it was nice, and I liked most of the tunes, and I began to learn the songs.At some point I began to play the songs in the car as a way to learn them, and the kids listened along of course. They began singing the songs even when we were in the house, and I was impressed that they learned them so easily, and also that they loved them so much. These days when I ask which album they would rather listen to, most of the time they choose this one.I find that, when they are listening to this album, they are more calm and centered and happier in general.What surprised me the most was my husband's reaction to this album. There was a day when he accidentally fell upon one of the songs in my iTunes album, and he fell in LOVE. He raved to me about it later, and was obsessing about it such that I had to play the other songs for him as well--He loved so many of them! He has a background in classical piano playing, but he mostly likes dance music these days. I was totally surprised that he liked them so much, and it is a very happy album for my family to hear when we are in the mood for music.
I have a nursery kindergarten and we LOVE all the songs in this book! If you are tired of The Wheels on the Bus and Old McDonald, get this book and sing your heart out :) The songs range from very simple and easy to learn songs for the youngest children, to more complex and definitely geared toward/ appropriate for elementary school ages. Guitar chords are included. I have been singing these songs with my nursery school children for over 25 years and I am not sick of them yet!
This is a treasure chest of children's songs that relate to the beauty of everyday life. This book takes you from waking in the rosy morning, exploring the wonders of nature, playing and working with friends, to drifting into dreamland.I appreciate the quality of the selections in this album. You'll find poetry by recognized poets, folk songs with interesting melodies, and songs filled with gratitude. I will be using some of the simple songs with our preschool class. The songs are not overly cutesy or silly like many songs out there for children. They have a simple sophistication to them without being too hard to sing. The lullaby section of this book is outstanding, in my opinion. I would buy this book for the song called "Daisies" alone! "Stefan was a Stable Lad," "Alpine Song," "I Held a Lamb," "Firefly," and "Japanese Rain Song" are a few more of my favorites.The songbook includes piano accompaniment and guitar chords. The accompaniment printed in the book is much more simple than the arrangements recorded on the CD. I think you could easily add recorder, flute or violin accompaniment to most songs though.I've really enjoyed learning the songs with the CD. The children's voices make me think of the Von Trapp children. Yes, the "r's" are strong, and the balance between the accompaniment and the vocals could have used a bit of remastering.(Like the companion songbook CD, Sing Through the Seasons, the flute is overpowering sometimes.) Overall I'm very impressed with their tight harmony and the sweet tone of their voices. Good work Bruderhof children's choir!These songs seem perfect for classrooms as well as daily singing at home. I love this book!

great music, great for kids - just really a lovely item. nice hardback cover also. Very good addition to a library and very good for musical enrichment and fun!

Super-durable hard cover book with high quality glossy paper. Contains music and words to 80 songs. There are 56 songs on the CD. Illustrations are colored-in woodcuts and charcoal sketches. Illustrations go with almost every song and include animals, nature scenes, and multicultural children who are happy and doing just about every activity from blowing dandelion seeds into the wind to playing dress-up as king and queen. Songs are well organized by subject. The "chapters" are: morning, play, nature, games, birthday, weather, and evening. An alphabetical index of song titles is at the end of the book. Songs that are included on the CD are clearly marked in the text. The CD is piano music with a chorus of children singing. What a wonderful resource for parents and teachers!
My 3-year-old son absolutely adores this book and CD. He loves looking at the beautiful color pictures and listening to me sing the songs. He has even picked up the words to many of the songs, and likes to sing along. The songs are unusual -- I had not heard most of them -- and beautiful, with lovely messages about nature and joyful living. A good change from the common nursery rhymes all children learn. There are also some games (actions) suggested for some songs. I took the book to my son's preschool and we sang songs and did the motions -- the kids loved it. I have bought four copies of this book to give away to friends and relatives.
