A lot has been written about the time contractor Raymond Davis spent in a Pakistani jail in 2011. Unfortunately, much of it is misleading - or downright false - information.
Now, the man at the center of the controversy tells his side of the story for the very first time. In The Contractor: How I Landed in a Pakistani Prison and Ignited a Diplomatic Crisis, Davis offers an up-close and personal look at the 2011 incident in Lahore, Pakistan, that led to his imprisonment and the events that took place as diplomats on both sides of the bargaining table scrambled to get him out.
How did a routine drive turn into front-page news? Davis dissects the incident before taking listeners on the same journey he endured while trapped in the Kafkaesque Pakistani legal system. As a veteran security contractor, Davis had come to terms with the prospect of dying long before the January 27, 2011 shooting, but nothing could prepare him for being a political pawn in a game with the highest stakes imaginable.
An eye-opening memoir, The Contractor takes the veil off Raymond Davis's story and offers a sober reflection on the true cost of the War on Terror.

Powerful read from start to finish. Reading this book exposed me to the human side of Ray Davis that was hidden from general public all that long. As an American of Pakistani origin there is nothing in the book that sounded out of the line or exaggerated. The depiction of Pakistani media and justice system by the author is sadly spot on.
Excellent book, if you want to know what private contractors go through when they're over in the big sandbox read this.
I'm not much of a reader but this book is amazing! I got sucked into the story right away.
Really enjoyed the book. I went to school with Raymond Davis we graduated high school the same year. A very nice guy. Glad he was able to return home from all of this.
Raymond detailed a well written account of his days held in captivity in a foreign and hostile country. A political pawn that most of us Americans will know nothing about.Highly recommend this book.
Very interesting first person account, of course that shows throughout.
Outstanding book. I feel for Mr. Davis. He was judged negatively by almost everybody even though Everybody agreed that the sh...theads had at least one gun and pointed it at Davis. Why should he sit there and wait to see if they'll discharge the weapon? The folks that think he should have done that are living in Fantasyland where everybody gets free college.Anyway, beyond my opinion of the events, the book was well written, well organized and had zero grammatical errors which is something I haven't seen in a book in years. Davis showed humility in his writing while still sounding competent and confident. Parts of the book we're funny and in between the lines were excellent instruction on situational awareness and personal security.I hope Davis landed on his feet and was able to move on to an excellent new chapter in his life.
Well told, from the horse's mouth account of the incident. Would recommend for anyone who's interested in a quick and easy read.
